Small businesses are the greatest source of new employment in Chicago and it is important that they remain financially sound. A small loan is often enough capital to support a company through difficult times, and can help retain jobs. The Small Business Loan Program provides the incentive for Chicago banks to make loans to support businesses without directly putting taxpayer dollars at risk.

The Small Business Development Program was launched by the Office of the City Treasurer in fall of 2009. The development funds are granted to community lenders for the use of making micro-loans below $150,000.
The City Treasurer is currently partnered with ACCION Chicago to deliver the Small Business Development Program funds. ACCION has been successful at moving these funds into the community.
