A celebration and community recognition event is planned for Cook County’s Juneteenth IL 2025, which takes place Saturday, June 14, as a part of “Juneteenth Illinois,” an initiative commemorating the official June 19 date. This year’s conference is titled “Getting to the Heart of the Matter” and marks the 5th annual celebration of Juneteenth by the county since it became an official holiday in December 2020.

Ada Street in the last remaining building of the Jane Addams Homes, officially opened its doors Friday. It is the first cultural institution in the country dedicated to telling the story of public housing through the voices of those who lived it.

Financial insecurity is one of the leading barriers to successful reentry after incarceration. To support returning citizens in their journey to financial stability, the Chicago Treasurer’s Office (CTO) collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Re-Entry is proud to introduce :The Second Act: Second Chances—a specialized financial education workshop at the 2025 Money Matters Institute (MMI). This initiative offers the critical financial tools needed to help returning citizens rebuild their lives and escape the cycle of economic hardship.
